From a pure fan perspective and not a personal one, BTS’s team and BH more broadly do a pretty exceptional job managing them and their marketing, even from this lens. But even if you’re hurt, I don’t think you can deny BTS members consent, have fun, are empowered, and are making money.

If anyone is just interested in my personal opinion on this specifically for BTS, here’s where I stand: BTS is-on a relative scale-pretty conservative with queer-coded fanservice, with most staged moments suggestive but very much signaling platonic vibes (no one’s out there kissing each other) much of the rest of things is just BTS’s particularly closeness and their individual relationships (see #1 & #2) Big Hit definitely monitors/edits/cashes in on shipping, but also make a clear concerted effort to keep things balanced between ships (as this excellent post points out) and always pushes OT7 as topline (which is why subunits change so often & they take CFs, interviews, etc typically as OT7).
